40 Hour Mediation Training & Assessment

Unlock Your Potential as a Commercial Mediator with CIArb Kenya Branch – August 2025 Intake Now Open!

Are you ready to take your career to the next level with one of the most impactful conflict resolution skills in today’s legal and commercial landscape? The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), Kenya Branch is pleased to announce the upcoming 6-day Commercial Mediation Training, taking place from Tuesday, 19th August to Tuesday, 26th August 2025, with the accreditation assessment on Wednesday, 27th August 2025.

This in-depth training will be conducted by highly experienced, senior practicing mediators, and is designed for individuals looking to build or enhance their skills in commercial mediation – a key component of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

Why Take This Course?

This course is ideal for:

  • Aspiring mediators seeking CIArb Membership and Accreditation.
  • Legal professionals, arbitrators, adjudicators, and those already working in conflict resolution.
  • Individuals interested in enhancing their communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Professionals dealing with family or commercial disputes who wish to contribute to the growing pool of trained mediators in Kenya.

Notably, Article 159 (2)(c) of the Constitution of Kenya recognizes mediation as a legitimate dispute resolution mechanism. With the continued rollout of the Court-Annexed Mediation Scheme, there’s an increasing demand for at least 200 trained mediators to support the judiciary in handling commercial and family disputes more efficiently.

What Will You Learn?

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:

  • Understand the mediation process and its unique role among ADR methods.
  • Demonstrate key mediator skills: from managing emotions and communication to facilitating resolutions.
  • Manage each stage of the mediation process—from preparation and opening to negotiation and conclusion.
  • Gain insights into setting up a mediation practice and an overview of the English legal framework related to mediation.

How is the Course Structured?

  • 6 Days of Training: An immersive, practical learning experience using case studies and role plays.
  • In-Person Delivery: Face-to-face interaction ensures direct engagement with expert mediators.
  • 1 Day Accreditation Assessment: Candidates will participate in two mock mediations and be evaluated on people skills, process handling, and case management.

Assessment Outcome: To pass, candidates must be marked ‘COMPETENT’ in people skills for both sessions, and in process and management skills in at least one.
