The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) Kenya Branch is pleased to announce the upcoming Award Writing Module, a specialized training program designed to equip participants with the advanced knowledge and practical skills required to write clear, reasoned, and enforceable Arbitration Awards.
This course is ideal for professionals ready to take the next step toward Fellowship status within the Institute and those seeking a deeper understanding of the decision-making process in arbitration.
📅 Course Structure and Key Dates
The Award Writing Module will span three months and be delivered through three one-day online tutorials, with an optional revision session and a final assessment:
- Tutorial 1: 12th September 2025
- Tutorial 2: 17th October 2025
- Tutorial 3: 12th November 2025
- Revision Session (Optional): 27th November 2025 (1 hour)
- Final Exam: 5th December 2025
🎯 Course Objectives
This course provides candidates with the knowledge and tools necessary to:
- Understand and evaluate evidence
- Analyze parties’ submissions and legal issues
- Apply relevant law to the facts presented
- Structure and draft final arbitration awards
- Comply with the Arbitration Act 1996 and relevant legal standards
The training is based on a comprehensive Workbook, which will be provided to candidates upon completion of the application process, beginning 1st August 2025.

- Members of CIArb who are working towards Fellowship status
- Professionals seeking to understand arbitration awards, including party representatives and witnesses
- Practitioners who have completed CIArb Module 1 (Law, Practice and Procedure) and Module 2 (Law of Obligations) under the New Pathways program
- Those granted exemptions for Module 2 through CIArb’s exemption process

📝 Course Assessment
Assessment is via a four-hour Award Writing examination, based on the Arbitration Act 1996 (UK). Candidates must achieve a minimum score of 70% to pass.
🏅 Certification and Progression
Successful candidates will:
- Receive an Advanced Certificate in Award Writing
- Become eligible to apply for Peer Interview and progress to Fellowship (FCIArb) status

Tutorial Fee: Kshs 61,000 (includes course materials)
- First installment of Kshs 30,000 due by 15th August 2025
- Balance payable by 23rd September 2025

Examination Fee:
- GBP 408 (direct UK payment) or
- GBP 412 (Kenya Branch CBA Pounds Account)
