Ciarb Kenya Branch Announces Vacancy for Chief Executive Officer

The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Ciarb) Kenya Branch, the leading professional body promoting Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Kenya, invites applications from qualified, experienced, and results-oriented professionals for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

As the Branch implements its Strategic Plan 2026–2030, this recruitment marks an important step in strengthening institutional leadership, enhancing service delivery, and advancing the Branch’s mission of promoting access to justice through arbitration, mediation, adjudication, and other ADR mechanisms.

Position Details

About the Role

The Chief Executive Officer will provide strategic and operational leadership to the Ciarb Kenya Secretariat under the direction of the Board of Directors.

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the Branch’s strategy, growing membership and training income, strengthening partnerships, safeguarding the Branch’s reputation and assets, and ensuring sound governance and compliance with the law, the Charter, and Institute policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the Branch.
  • Implement the Strategic Plan, annual work plans, and budgets.
  • Grow revenue from training, examinations, conferences, events, and membership.
  • Drive membership recruitment, retention, and engagement.
  • Oversee the education, training, and examination calendar.
  • Build relationships with members, courts, government, development partners, and CIArb Headquarters.
  • Lead the planning and delivery of the Branch annual conference and flagship events.
  • Ensure sound financial management and internal controls.
  • Manage human capital and organizational performance.
  • Promote ethics, integrity, and good corporate citizenship.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess:

  • A Master’s degree in Law, Business Administration, Management, Public Policy, Development Studies, Communication, or a related field.
  • A professional qualification in management or leadership.
  • At least 12 years’ work experience, including 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Knowledge of the Alternative Dispute Resolution sector.
  • A proven track record in strategic planning and execution.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to lead teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Membership of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators is desirable. A successful candidate who is not a member at the time of appointment will be required to attain Member grade (MCIArb) within twelve months as a condition of confirmation.

Working Conditions

The role carries a high degree of autonomy and responsibility and requires flexibility, including occasional evening and weekend engagements and travel, as provided for in the contract of employment.
