MEET THE NEW CHAIRMAN

We are pleased to announce that Prof. Kenneth Wyne Mutuma, C.Arb as the new Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Kenya Branch), effective June 2025.

Prof. Wyne brings over 23 years of exceptional legal and academic experience. He holds a Doctorate and Master of Laws (LL.M), a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B), and a Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Studies all from the University of Nairobi.

An accomplished Chartered Arbitrator (CIArb, London), Certified Professional Mediator, Fellow Certified Secretary, and Certified Governance Auditor, Prof. Wyne has made outstanding contributions to the fields of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), International Law, and Corporate Governance.

Professional Leadership

Prof. Wyne is an active member of several professional bodies, including:

  • Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Kenya and London)
  • Law Society of Kenya
  • Architectural Association of Kenya
  • East African Law Society
  • Mediation Accreditation Committee

Academic Excellence

Recognized as Law Teacher of the Year 2024, Prof. Wyne is a dedicated scholar and educator with numerous publications. He also currently serves as:

  • Editor-in-Chief, Eastern Africa Journal on International Humanitarian Law
  • Associate Editor-in-Chief, ADR Journal
  • Editor-in-Chief, Corporate Governance Journal (ICS)

Leadership Transition

Prof. Wyne succeeds Jacqueline Waihenya, C.Arb, FCIArb, who served with distinction as Chair from 2023 to 2025. During her tenure, she led the Institute through significant growth and visibility.

Prior to his appointment, Prof. Wyne served as Vice Chair and Chairman of the Conference Committee, where he steered key strategic events and enhanced regional collaboration in ADR.

As Chair, Prof. Wyne is committed to deepening institutional impact, enhancing professional training, and positioning CIArb Kenya as a leader in global arbitration standards.
