The ADR Journal Vol.14 Issue 2 The ADR Journal is a publication by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), Kenya that spearheads intellectual discourse on pertinent and germane issues in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and other related fields of knowledge.

Arbitration Rules These rules have been revised to accord with the provisions of the Arbitration Act, No. 4 of 1995 (as amended from time to time) and are primarily applicable to non-administered or noninstitutional arbitration within the jurisdiction of the Republic of Kenya.

Welcome Antony!!

Research, Development and Innovation Assistant

Murithi Antony is the Research, Development and Innovation Assistant at the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), Kenya Branch, where he leads the Branch’s research, knowledge management, and innovation agenda. He holds an LL.B (Hons) from the University of Embu and has completed the Advocates Training Programme at the Kenya School of Law. He will be admitted to the Roll of Advocates in November 2026.

Before joining CIArb Kenya, Murithi trained and worked as a Pupil Advocate and Legal Researcher at Njuguna & Njuguna Co. Advocates, and served as Programmes Officer at the Centre for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (CCCAM), University of Embu, where he oversaw climate innovation and research, resource mobilisation, and policy engagement.

Murithi has authored over 30 peer-reviewed papers in various peer-reviewed journals, spanning commercial law, ESG integration, emerging dispute resolution mechanisms, climate-induced contractual risk, and indigenous justice systems.

At Ciarb Kenya, his mandate covers:

Research and policy development: conducting comparative research on arbitration, mediation, adjudication, and negotiation, and preparing research papers, policy briefs, and position papers to inform ADR policy and legislative reform.
Knowledge management and thought leadership: coordinating the Branch’s annual research agenda, building its ADR knowledge repository and digital library, and producing research summaries and technical updates for the Board, members, and stakeholders.
Innovation and institutional development: evaluating opportunities to strengthen ADR service delivery, and tracking emerging technologies in dispute resolution, including artificial intelligence and online dispute resolution (ODR).
Research partnerships and data analysis: establishing collaborations with universities, government agencies, and international ADR bodies, and producing statistical reports and analytical briefs on ADR trends and institutional performance.
Education, publications, and international monitoring: supporting curriculum and training material development, contributing to conferences and technical programmes, and benchmarking CIArb Kenya against international ADR best practice.

He holds further certifications in climate policy from Oxford Net Zero, design thinking from the University of Queensland, and data protection from the Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law (CIPIT), Strathmore University.
