Ciarb Kenya Honours Retiring Board Members at Special Cocktail Reception

The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Ciarb) Kenya Branch held a special cocktail reception on Thursday evening to celebrate and honour several distinguished Board Members who are retiring after years of dedicated service to the Institute and the advancement of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Kenya and beyond.

The event was hosted by the Chairman, Prof. Wyne Kenneth Mutuma, MBS, C.Arb, and brought together members of the Board, past and present leaders of the Institute, and distinguished guests from the legal and ADR fraternity.

Over the years, each of these leaders has played a significant role in strengthening the Institute, promoting professional excellence, and advancing the practice of arbitration and ADR in Kenya. Their dedication, leadership, and commitment have left a lasting impact on the growth and success of Ciarb Kenya Branch.

The event was attended by Chair Emerita Jacqueline Waihenya, C.Arb, Director and Law Society of Kenya President Charles Kanjama, SC, FCIArb, Honorary Secretary Howard Mmanyi, MCIArb, Director Eng. Fredrick Aluoch, FCIArb, Director Christine Mwikali, MCIArb and Honorary Treasurer James Ngotho, FCIArb, among other distinguished guests and members.

The keynote address was delivered by John Ohaga, SC, C.Arb, who reflected on the importance of service, leadership, and mentorship within professional institutions. In his toast to the retiring Directors, he shared a simple yet powerful message: “Just show up. It doesn’t matter where it is or who is in the room—just show up. You will be surprised how many people need you and how many lives you will change.” He commended the retiring Board Members for their dedication and encouraged the next generation of ADR practitioners to continue building on the strong foundation they have helped establish through their years of service and leadership.

Speaking during the event, Chairman Prof. Wyne Kenneth Mutuma expressed the Institute’s gratitude to the retiring Board Members for their years of selfless service and commitment to advancing ADR. He noted that their contributions would continue to inspire future leaders of the Institute.

The cocktail reception provided an opportunity for members and colleagues to celebrate achievements, share memories, and recognize the enduring legacy of those who have contributed significantly to the growth of Ciarb Kenya Branch.
